Re: How much should this stallion be up for?
I personally would do 10-20 k. But with a horse like this I would breed him to a like mare so that I can see how well he produces. Then, depending on the foal, I would decide on a price. 20 k for pretty much the same. 10k for a lot lower. If the foal has a lot higher of a confo, I would put the price up to 30k. That’s just me thoughPeacefulOreo wrote:How much should I put this colt up for stud when he's fully grown?:

Okay. I'm seeing how much I could maybe make if I, later on, put him up for stud. He's descended from several world record holders.RoyalCrownAcres wrote:I personally would do 10-20 k. Re: How much should this stallion be up for?
If he is descended from several world record holders, then in my opinion, it would be fitting to train him up and offer a competition record, so that potential breeders can see how well he matches up to not only their breeding programs, but also his ancestry.PeacefulOreo wrote:How much should I put this colt up for stud when he's fully grown?:
It's as much about his current abilities as much as it can be about his pedigree. It only takes a generation or two for genes that produced a record holder to get diluted to the point of ability loss. So if he descends from a strong competitive line and you're sure he will live up to his predecessors (regardless of breaking records), then train and compete him. But if you think he'll fail in that area, then don't train him up and compete him. Post him for what you value he may be worth and let the breeders take that chance.
For me, when I breed out to a possibly competition line, pedigree does have weight, but so does the horse I'm breeding to. If there's no competition record and I'm breeding strictly for competition lines, I'm likely to avoid him.
Alternatively, even if he's a little weaker then his pedigree, as long as he has a competition record, I'd still give him a try.
But that's what I look for and how I'd handle a potential competition bloodline foal.
