I’m new. Some quick questions!

Post by MMKattarinaT »

Hey!
1. I was wondering how ya earn money quick in this game (the $)?

I’m new (joined yesterday)

2. And also tell me a little about genetics. How does the breeding work?

3. And what am I looking for in a horse? When I buy a horse what’s the most important thing to think about?

4. And when does a horse die? Is it at an certain age? Can it starve?

5. Does equipment matter in performance? Or is it just there cause it looks good?

Thnx in advance

So a lot of these questions can be found doing a quick search in our questions forum. There is also some very good topic guides in our guides forum that cover perhaps every question you have. When you have the opportunity, you should swing by the help, guides forum and take a look.

As a last note, this should have gone into the questions topic, but that's not really a big deal.

So question one, earning money quick. The quickest way to earn money is through local shows. It won't earn you much, but a quality 'grinder' horse can earn you quite a bit when just using local shows throughout it's lifetime. I can't give you a direct estimate, because as you gain levels, the amounts you earn in local shows will also increase. Another quick way to earn a ton of money and PT points is by accomplishing the quests, found under the player tab on the left of the screen.
A grinder is a horse that grinds at earning monies. It is generally not good at player-made competition and usually not used in breeding either, it's considered a throw-away horse. For newbies, there are a lot of players that will sell grinder-horses at heavy discounts or even for free. To acquire a fully trained grinder, you will need to cruise the sales market and keep your eyes open in the forums for these grinders. They're generally, first come, first earned.

Question number two is incredibly involved and will take up a whole topic in itself. So I'll keep it short. The genetics in the game work along the same lines as real-life genetics. If you're not already knowledgeable about it, look up online about the Punnett square. We have limited genetics in game to date, so not everything about a horse will be found. For instance, we have all the basic colors (brown, bay, black, chestnut), but we don't have a true white, nor do we have true markings (stockings and blazes). Pseudo-whites are some form of triple dilute (double cream or cream & pearl with champagne). The only painted patterning right now in game is the tobiano gene (this gene also causes our pseudo-markings like socks).
Now for the second part of your question, breeding. The horse, at birth offers you everything it has to pass on the next generation. Competing doesn't increase chances of better offspring, nor does it worsen them. Any horse can't pass on genes that it doesn't have, so for instance, a horse pair (dam and sire) that does not have dun, cannot have a dun foal. So if a dun foal is born, one or both of the parents must carry the gene.
In short order, if you understand what you need to do, you can take AC horses (Adoption Center) and breed them up to above 50,000 HGP (horse genetic potential) in as little as five generations without relying on market studs. So even though you may be a newbie, it doesn't mean you're at a great disadvantage. It simply means you have a learning curve ahead of you.

Question three, what to look for in horses is entirely based on what you want to do in game. What can I suggest? I suggest you go through the tutorial and if by the end, you haven't yet figured out your first project, start by going through the breeding quests. These will allow you to earn some income through the quests and enable you to get a better handle on how to breed the recipe breeds the game has. There is a lot of help about this with a simple search in the questions forum. We constantly have questions about it, so every query you have should be decently easy to find.
So once you figure out what your goals are, then what horses you want to purchase will become clear. If you still have questions about what fits your needs, then feel free to let us know your goals or your needs and we can then help to direct you to what to look for in a horse for purchase.

Death of horses, question four. Horses can only die right now from old age. The chance of dying from old age begins at 17, although it is extremely rare for a horse to die that young. With each turn used, the chance of death continues to increase. Most horses will die between 21 and 24 years. Pregnant mares CANNOT die, but they can pass away the day they give birth. So starvation and obesity only affect the player-made competitions at the moment (there is debate over whether they do and how much they might affect the local shows).

Last question, about tack. It's only there for looks. It doesn't affect anything in game and I don't know whether it is planned in the future to ever do so.

Welcome and enjoy the game!

hi, welcome

1. look for high reward competitions and buy a horse that can enter

2. genetics info is found in the help section, its to much to explain here.

3. The breeders report says a lot about a horse. If the breeders report is good, but conformation is basic, you can still have a winner. Pick a favorite breed, start with a moneymaking breed

4. Horses wont starve to death, but they will die.. some faster then others

5. There is not a lot of equiptment, so i guess its all just for the looks

Good luck :)

Even though I'm not all that new to this game, there are still things that I don't know fully. I will answer the questions I can explain and know for sure.

1. The quickest way is by entering horses into local shows. There are many ways to make money but this is one of the fastest ways as a beginner. Some players also host contests and sometimes the prize is money. Later on you can also sell your horses and train other people's horses.

3. Here's what to look for in a horse (in general): Higher genetic potential, good breeders report (In the breeders report, there are some comments, some are highlighted. Gold is really good, green is good, plain is okay, and red is bad), good conformation (the conformation of a horse can only be accessed by those who have a premium account. The higher, the better. High 50s and 60s are what you want), color (the color really depends on what you like and dislike), the evaluation (you can buy evaluation books that will evaluate your horse with other horses of that breed). The other things (like build, gender, age, etc.) depends on what you want / looking for. For example, I'm in a Thoroughbred breeding project. Here's what I'm looking for: 4 or 5 evaluation for a Thoroughbred, 60+ speed conformation, and a gold stat in speed (the breeders report). The other things like color, is only on my opinion (I like black and bright chestnut).

4. Horses in this game don't really "die". Usually 15+ years of age is when they "retire". Meaning that you can still view the horse and some of the horse's info but you can't do anything with them (enter shows, train, etc.). If you underfeed a horse, the horse doesn't die like in real life.

5. Equipment (like saddles, halters, etc.) is just for decoration. You don't need to put any tack on a horse for training, entering shows, and/or entering competitions.
