Sorry guys, I'm so dumb, but what is a grinder? i have been wondering for a while

If you haven't heard the name it's not dumb to ask

'Grinder' means a horse that does fairly well in locals (or competitions) and helps you 'grind' for money.
Also, there are a few people offering such horses for new players for free or at reasonable prices
