I tend to like to use the mare grinders more because they can live longer, but when you get one that isn't good and is living FOREVER without breeding it's just ridiculousBlackOak2 wrote:shadowheart2006 wrote:
One of my last grinders was a very mediocre one, and even though I never bred her she lived to be around 35 years oldWow! That's amazing longevity!
Oldest I had (without breeding) was a stallion at... was it 27? 29? I think he lasted to 29 years.
I do wonder, from time to time, if that can be bred into these horses too. But that's a project I won't be getting around to.

Such is the trials and tribulations of turn-grinders...
In fact, I have more than just a few grinder-able horses right now stacked up in the wings... Feast or Famine...

But I have noticed that these club lines do appear to have some capacity as decent grinders. Go figure.

I generally tend to breed my grinders while I'm using them, so all of my foals come from proven lines. The trouble is that I have 100+ foals and not enough time to train them allBlackOak2 wrote:Ahahahah!shadowheart2006 wrote:

None of those look trained, let alone competed.
I'm not interested in any without a record. I need to see proof of heart, so if there's no competition record, there will be no proof of heart.
They are pretty though, congrats on your work.

Heavy Cull, the two, probably, most important words in HWO. And if you still find you're keeping a lot of foals, upgrade your 'keep' requirements until you're keeping somewhere between 1 in 5 or 2 in 5.

But... I have the same problem.

I'm currently working on transferring my grinder lines from Arabian to Belgian, and I'm getting so many good foals right now that I've needed to started upping my requirements. Of course, I need to make sure not to go too far or I'll end up with no foals whatsoeverBlackOak2 wrote:Hah!shadowheart2006 wrote:

Well, in that case, keep the 'best one' and even if it's a bit below your requirements, you'll still have ONE at least. Replace as you go along. That's how I handled one of my earlier projects and it worked quite well. But we all also come to that too.shadowheart2006 wrote:I'm currently working on transferring my grinder lines from Arabian to Belgian, and I'm getting so many good foals right now that I've needed to started upping my requirements. Re: Searching For Stallion, Very Strong WPS, Tb, Tb mix or Grade
I've been working on this project on and off for the past few days; I started out with a few AC belgian mares and a grinder stallion and worked the HGP and stats up from there. Now I've gotten up to 92% belgian arabian mixes with 4-5 golds and 1-2 greens, but I just had to do a hard cull and up the standards to 67k+ hgp for mares and 70k+ hgp for stallions. That leaves me with two stallions and a few mares, but that meant that I needed to rehome/sell quite a bit of my stock. A bit dissapointing to have to rehome a few good foals but, such is.BlackOak2 wrote:Well, in that case, keep the 'best one' and even if it's a bit below your requirements, you'll still have ONE at least. Re: Searching For Stallion, Very Strong WPS, Tb, Tb mix or Grade
Almost all of these are trained. It seems only a handful have competition records. Of these, only one has a WPS over 80%Heartland2001 wrote:All the tbs on this account are trained and have competition records. https://www.horseworldonline.net/farm/view/164695Heartland2001 wrote:

This stallion.
He shows a lot of what I'm looking for. But when I investigate his times in Racing, it seems that many of these firsts (what I'm looking for) are earned in low levels and when pushed against horses in high levels, he falters.
He appears to be running on pure talent alone. That's fine and dandy, a great horse overall, but he doesn't have the heart I'm looking for.
So... I'm not interested in him either.
