Re: Zebras
I voted no. I think there's other features that really should be implemented before zebras are considered a thing.

Re: Zebras
Maybe as a pet or a costume but not as something we can breed with our horses. Zebras ARE NOT HORSES.
... unless you plan on making them a transmitter for African horse sickness when diseases are added? Although that's more common in Grévy's zebra, not the Cape mountain zebra that the random coats added to the game seem to be based on.
In any case, zebras shouldn't be added, in my opinion, before we have much more important features such as geldings. Why are geldings so low on the priority list anyway?
Also, here are the different species of zebra, for anyone wondering what they look like.

Re: Zebras
(Unfortunately) with the zebra glitch that we have been having (our horses have the stripes of a zebra) I think that they will not be pets (like the goats)Malakai10 wrote:ping

At least that is what I think will happen.
I can't agree more with you on the fact that this feature should not be added until more important updates have been implemented in the game.

To be honest the fact that we have gotten the answer that, for example, approved mares (a REALLY important feature for the basic gameplay) are further down the list, I am kind of dissapointed to see that the developers are adding zebras while there are other more important features that could of been added instead (important features that are also highly requested by the community for, literally, years)
But I do love the fact that the developers are surprising us with such updates, it is nice to see that they are updating the game wit intresting features ^^
I would just appreciate more to see small but important features being added to the game and after that I am all for zebras

Re: Zebras
It's because zebras have no effect on gameplay and only took a few minutes to program. Zebras have a high return in fun for a small amount of effort with no downsides as far as the game is concerned.
Geldings are important, but we already have a problem with low numbers in rare breeds. People get greedy about their lines and geldings would only make that problem worse. That feature is also part of the planned veterinary expansion, which is part of the specialized skills expansion. It's been planned and worked on from the beginning, but it's a lot of work. Similar story with approved mares. The whole, buying, selling and breeding system needs a huge overhaul, and we're working on it but it takes time. Things like that have real consequences on gameplay so we have to make sure we implement them properly. Approved mares would reduce people's ability to breed. We do understand that people are protective of their lines and want to control them, but this is a small game with a small community and adding things that hurt a new players ability to get started are low on the priority list.
We really do appreciate your feedback and concerns. We understand them and in some ways agree with them. Zebras don't need to be in the game at all. We hadn't planned on them even a little bit. But please consider that people started asking for zebras and a day later they were in the game. It wasn't something that stopped us from adding something more important, just a little fun. They aren't hurting anything. Plus they look amazing and I love them.
Thanks for playing the game and keep breeding those horses!

Re: Zebras
I can't speak for everyone of course, but only from my perspective, and I fail to see how geldings and private breedings would cause a problem. I think if people are going to be greedy about their lines, they're going to be greedy about their lines whether geldings exist or not.
This is my scenario, so again, it's personal perception:
I go through days pretty quick and test a lot of stallions in local shows that I end up not using for my breeding program because they are inferior to other stallions I already have access to. Basically these now fully trained horses sit on my account until they die because I am one of those greedy people who likes to have control of my lines (I offer breedings to people but I almost never sell colts/stallions). Now, if I could geld these horses I would be happy to sell them to people so they could use them as either a local show hero or a really solid show prospect as even the stallions I choose to not use for breeding are still pretty dang good in competition. Either they get gelded and go out into the world or they do nothing. Not having access to gelding is not going to make me change my mind and decide to throw my horses out into the world.
For me it's a similar situation with not being able to have private breedings. I'm not going to post stallions up and gamble people reading "Private", so when I am offering a breeding I just sit and wait for the person to be on at the same time as me, I throw the stallion up for stud for max of around 2 minutes to let them breed their mare(s) and then the stallion comes back down again. It just makes it more of a pain for basically the same result. I'd be more inclined to offer more breedings if private breedings was actually a feature because it would be way easier for me to coordinate and easier for people to apply.
I appreciate that consideration and thought is going into the implementation of the features, but I really just don't understand how gelding and private breedings will make the problems you mentioned worse.

But zebras are distantly related to horses. It's like a house cat relationship to a lion or a tiger. They look different but they're within the same family, Equus.

Re: Zebras
Another thing that I learned is that realistically speaking, zebras can't be tamed and ridden like horses because of their wild nature. https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C1CH ... ent=psy-ab

Re: Zebras
That is true. Also, if one were to somehow be able to ride one, it could cause problems with the zebra's back because they are not bred to be ridden (or even owned).PeacefulOreo wrote:Another thing that I learned is that realistically speaking, zebras can't be tamed and ridden like horses because of their wild nature. https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C1CH ... ent=psy-ab
