Re: Horse colours: Names and pictures
Amber Champagne is correct! She also has at least one Tiger Eye gene.Tjigra wrote:What about this one? - http://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/381930
Definitely champagne, but on what base? A bit too dark (I think) for gold champagne, mane and tail too light for amber. Amber silver? But then mane and tail are too dark again.
(She's a half sister to the previous one, so her dam was listed as amber silver, but she was much lighter than Veleda is..)

Re: Horse colours: Names and pictures
She is definitely Amber Champagne (champange on a bay base). She also has one copy of the tiger eye gene, which makes her eyes lighter but not as green as if she had two copies of the gene.Tjigra wrote:What about this one? - http://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/381930

Re: Horse colours: Names and pictures
Thanks, I realized after posting that her mane and tail is getting darker as she ages, and now she is unmistakably amber. I hadn't even noticed the eyes.

Re: Horse colours: Names and pictures
This is amazing! Thanks soo much!

What the heck would you call this though, when she was younger she was definitely buckskin. Now I'm not so sure what to call it.

Re: Horse colours: Names and pictures
She is silver buckskin (silver mane and tail as seen when she was younger). It is the varnish roan that changes the coat color when a horse gets older so the horse might look like it has a completely different coat color than a normal non-varnish silver buckskin would have.AelwinAlba wrote:http://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/385290

Re: Horse colours: Names and pictures
I think she is just buckskin. The light mane + tail are due to varnishing.Totina wrote:She is silver buckskin (silver mane and tail as seen when she was younger). Re: Horse colours: Names and pictures
I agree. Many buckskin horses look like they have silver when they "only" have leopard varnish. when they are young you can see it though that it's not silver. BTW silver in arabians is very rare atm (its not in the original AC horses).

Re: Horse colours: Names and pictures
I third the notion. No silver, just a varnish. ^^ But I don't think it would be that difficult to get silver into Arabians tho. I have a couple of Silver Baladi, but I also got some silver Arab x NAB crosses. Give it 3-4 generations and you could conceivably get purebred Silver Arabians.

Re: Horse colours: Names and pictures
I didn't know that Varnish could turn a coat so dark! It's good to know though, generally I'm pretty decent at guessing but she threw me for a loop when she went monochromatic on me lol!
