Re: Plume? (and flaxen?)

And some more evidence I have found that could possibly support this gene being linked to the silver gene is this TB stallion I just bought:

Now due to the incredibly long background behind most thoroughbreds on the game, there is no saying what the genetic base of this horse is. He could carry recessive flaxen, but in the case of this study, he also might not. If you look into 1. his parentage, you will see that his stud is actually a silver. Which I suspect to be a precursor of whatever this ominous flaxen appearing gene is. and 2. his progeny. He has had several foals that are also flaxen or silver appearing. Now, again due to how much genetic variety there is in the thoroughbreds, there is no saying whether or not these horses do have the recessive trait. BUT I would just like to point out how statistically unlikely it is for him to have that many foals with that many different thoroughbreds, and have that many flaxen foals. That is, if this gene were to actually be recessive (I want to emphasize that I am not saying that the flaxen gene itself is not recessive! I just think this is a case of some other gene or interaction that is creating flaxen appearing horses).

I bred him to two AC mares. Both Non-flaxen (one mare is a forest mare, seen in a previous post. Another is a Turkmene mare)

This forest mare and the TB stud

produced this flaxen foal:

and the turkmene mare and the TB stud

produced this flaxen foal:

I chose two breeds of AC horses that (I don't think) carry the recessive flaxen gene. This is just some more evidence that this particular version of flaxen works differently, since if it was also recessive, this would not have been possible.
