1) Altering (sterilized mares & geldings) with benefits for them (as has been discussed, or with some sort of benefits herein unnamed).
2) Altering without benefits (just the ability to not have offspring).
3) No altering, leave the game unchanged.
4) Abstain
This with the understanding that nothing has been decided and we will still be at the final decision of our admins.

Re: Geldings, additional courses, new 'personality'
I vote Option 2 which would be only not being able to have offspring. I feel as if we were to give geldings a higher chance than everyone would be gelding the good horses to have a higher advantage over others. Considering I am a former Howrse.com player I have to say the reason I came here was because the game was more community friendly and all the horses were judged more fairly. On the other game most people gelded horses before they even had a chance to breed and on there it was teams who mostly did this so that other players weren't able to get good horses but rather just compete them...when the teams would just create a better horse than yours. I don't want this game to turn out like Howrse because the way it is being run now makes it all community friendly. I also think that stud prices would increase a lot as well, causing newer players to not be able to pay for stud fees. f anything I would prefer the approved mares to be in effect before this since I have seen many posts about people's private studs being used rather than the fact that geldings would be a good addition. But that is just my personal opinion. If anyone has comments about my post I am more than happy to discuss it further.

I am a former Howrse player myself (I signed up shortly after it was officially released in the US... 2005? maybe? a year later? I don't really recall anymore). I was there way back when the original setup still existed where one could, if following a specific program set-up, very easily prime the horse to provide the best genetics for the offspring. After I had been playing it regularly for a few years or longer, I took a fairly lengthy hiatus at the time (I suppose it was a year or maybe more) and when I returned, they had scrapped that set-up for one that a player could only hit the optimum horse if the player spent real money (those danged passes) to get the additions to maximize the horse. ....People don't really remember way back then, it was before most Howrse players these days.... But it existed, and it was fun times....
I don't know exactly when you where playing that game or not, but way back when the original set-up was still in play, the game was both fun and the average, no-real-money player could still compete with those that dumped a lot of real money in the game. Since the change-over, I watched that community and then the game take a nose-dive so quickly, my own head started spinning. More than half of my own game-friends quit well before I finally did, over the community changes but more so, over the change that their own admins made.
Of course, opinions can always be wrong, but I want to say this: By offering a highlight to altered horses in game, shouldn't in any way affect the community as a whole. For increasing stud prices, I'm not too sure this will affect it either. Well... I could see that a good gelding/sterilized producing stud might climb the price of his standing, but isn't that the way it's supposed to be?
Plus, we do have in place, community-run & player-run programs to help our newbies.
I'd like to hear more about your concerns for this though. Although I see you have a point, I'm not quite fully understanding the connections you're making, so I, personally, would like to hear out more on this. Maybe we missed something that should be looked at more thoroughly.

I d have one more comment to add, Howrse is now a PTW game...they have made updates as well, but all of them require payment methods to be ranked in the top 50 players which is unfortunate since some Howrse players are under 14 years of age, thus making it impossible for them to succeed.
I have played Howrse since Oct. 31st, 2012. My account is still active and I get on every once in a while to check up on my teams, but from I have seen a lot of people quit because the game is PTW and will delete your account or ban you for 30 days for 'suspicious' activity which isn't easy for players who have spent.

I was still on that game when you signed up. You missed the original howrse by a good two or three years (again, I don't recall when that ridiculous changeover occurred) and it's really a shame, you, along with a mass of other players, missed the best years of howrse.HallOfFame 2 wrote:

I liquidated my horses, except I think one or two and trashed my account permanently. When I left, of the twenty or so original game-friends I regularly corresponded with, there was only two remaining (not counting me). I was told that they would likely be following me shortly thereafter.
So whenever you're ready, lay out all of your concerns and let's try to understand them as a community.

Re: Geldings, additional courses, new 'personality'
Vallers offered an appealing thought that I think should be added or considered for this post.
Still, I like the concept as a possible idea.
So, as long as I understand correctly, a one-time change that would permanently affect that horse for the rest of it's life. Which I think is an option that should be considered in lieu of having a repeating competition bonus. However, I'm not sure how or if this would work, because then it might mean we'd be changing the base parameters of the horse itself.vallers wrote:how about altering with random benefits or penalties just like breeding.

I vote No 1 but would like if colt gets gelded that they gain 1 point to a random stat

Re: Geldings, additional courses, new 'personality'
I haven't read through in full detail ....
But here's my vote loud and clear: Altering with benefits.
Re: the specifics, i like the idea of misbehaving horses, but i'm a bit worried that players could pompously enter these horses to competitions with the intent to purposely harm another players horse yes, perhaps i'm being, well, less then optimistic, but there it is.
perhaps some horses can be more "accident prone" then others? i dont know... similar to the idea of "failed breedings" perhaps.
either way - love the idea.... and because i've just eaten lunch... defiantly sounds better than the freshest yummest bit of pizza right now.

I would be more than happy to do so when I get time off of work. I do however have one comment to add before I list my concerns.BlackOak2 wrote:I was still on that game when you signed up. HWO has better communication between the players and the Admins/Mods and is friendly to people of all ages, thus making the game fair to them and not a PTW game. I'd prefer the game to stay this way since it is one of the reasons why it is so different from Howrse. I will list more about why I believe giving Geldings bonuses might be an issue in the future and why I think that they will not, just so that I do not offend those who are in favor of bonuses for Geldings.
