We don't have private sales just yet, so just make sure you read what's on the sale ad. Casie w is right that she doesn't technically have to give the horse back but it is common courtesy since we don't have a private sales option just yet and peeps pay for training or are trying to transfer to their second account. :)

The horse was listed for sale but it specifically said "do not buy" in all caps and she was only listed for a minute until I logged into my other account. After all that training, she was returned to me too old to show and without her foal. It's very sad to me. I think it's important to be respectful of other players.

Yes, you are allowed two accounts :)

While it's unfortunate this happened to you, I think you should be grateful that casie_w gave her back at all. She was in no way obligated to and I think it's very generous of her to give her back.
No one is obligated to read sales ads. I do not, either. If you buy a horse directly from its profile page there's no way to read the ad, anyway.
It's not very respectful of you to not even thank her and take your anger over your bad luck out on her. She did not do anything wrong and even went out of her way to get you your horse back.

If a horse is on the market, anyone can buy and keep it. Even if it has "do not buy" in the ad. If you do not want someone to "snipe" your horse, set a higher price and/or change accounts quicker.
This is just a risk we all have to take until there's a private sale option.

I don't think she needs to be grateful at all. While buying horses marked for transfer is not technically against the rules, doing so is an incredibly indecent and crappy thing to do. There's no way these players don't see the notes to leave the horse alone, so as far as I'm concerned, they're just being rude and spiteful when they buy the horse any way. And cassie_w's attitude when called out does not indicate that they feel a mistake was made on their part, so they aren't really deserving of respect for returning a sniped horse in unusable condition. Also, the likelihood that she found that horse without seeing it in the market is extremely low, unless she was magically wandering around hd's farm page during the 60 seconds the horse was on the market. Even then, an ounce of common sense would inform you that a fully trained and bred horse is not going to be up for sale for cheap.

For this reason if I am moving or temporarily loaning a horse to someone that it is especially important that he/she does not get sniped, I will even change the name of the horse to have "DO NOT BUY" in it, just in the off chance someone sees the horse by visiting it's page from the competition pages or whatever.

I can honestly say that I do not read sales ads at all. I would not notice if a horse had "do not buy" on it. I look at the picture, open its profile page and if I like it, I buy it from there.

As I don't look for trained horses in general, I don't scroll down far enough to see if the horse in question is trained or not and with our wacky economy, a young horse for $1 doesn't make me blink at all. So I honestly believe it could have been an honest mistake.

I'm German and we're kind of known for being direct. But a thread that contains phrases like "give it back" "I want it back!!" to me, reads as very rude to a possibly innocent user that wasn't even tagged (so may not have seen the thread), especially if one demands respect in return.

Then, after the user takes time out of their day to give the horse back, they get thanked with what amounts to "well now it's unusable" which further paints them as the bad guy that sniped a horse and made it unusable when it all could have very well been an accident.

As it stands, horses that are up for sale are up for grabs for everyone. You cannot make sure that the intended user gets it. You can only take precautions.

We had such a case in the past where an accidental "sniper" did everything in their power to give the horse back and also was thanked with "well now it's unusable". Of course it's unfortunate when you lose a horse during transfer, but I don't think that's the way we should talk to each other here.
