Re: Player-held Conformation Shows

I'm just looking for clarification to make sure I understand. Is each section being shown together (for example, all Warmblood Critical breeds)? Or is each sub category being shown together(Alter-Real or Wielkopolski)?

Also, how are the horses going to be judged? Is that up to the discretion of the judge?

This depends. If Alter-Real get enough entries to be sanctioned, they will be shown separately (at least five horses by three handlers). If they do not, they will be judged alone against their standard. Their points will be set aside. All other Critical breeds will have their points added up. In the end, the horses with the highest points will become Best of Class and Opposite Best of Class. They will then be moved up to compete in Best of Show. So the breeds will be shown in one class and be judged by how well they match their own standard. This way we won't get one Alter-Real entered and it be automatically bumped up to compete in Best of Show even though it isn't a good example of the breed.

The horses will be judged by a set standard that I am currently working on in order to fit all breeds. It will be based on evaluation (4* get more points than 3*); conformation (the closer it appears to the real life breed, the better); proper coloration, mane/tail type, and being w/ or w/o feathering; Breeder's Report (reds take away points) and Horse Genetic Potential (useful when two horses are extremely similar); and perhaps even temperament. The metric isn't set in stone and I'd love everyone's input on how much value we should assign each attribute.

Okay then here is how they do it for rl Arabians, so maybe this will help some. Movement would be nixed, but we can add in an 'other' category for feathers, GP, or other breed-specific quirks. But what I really like about what they do is they get rid of the highest and lowest scores from the judges to even it out a bit and hopefully get rid of any outliers.

JUDGING SYSTEM
We will be using a modified version of the Arabian Breeders World Cup: Scoring System for judging. The judging scale (poor < ideal) and dropping of highest and lowest scores will be used. On the other hand, we are modifying what is judged.

Horses will be judged on overall conformation; that is, how close they look to their breed based on real life horses and breed standards on HWO and off. Upgraded judges can compare conformation easier, but all judges are meant to look at the animal for overall balance. This is the first evaluation category (#1).

The second evaluation category (#2) is the head and neck. You will look at the face profile, face length, jowl, and neck length.

The third evaluation category (#3) is the shoulder and barrel conformation. You will look at their withers/shoulder angle, point of shoulder, rib cage, and depth of flank.

The fourth evaluation category (#4) is the back, haunches, and legs conformation. This includes hip angle, hip length, leg thickness, stifle placement, back length, and croup height.

The fifth evaluation category (#5) is based on evaluation. Here a horse with 4* for its breed would outdo a horse with 3*. Since this may be based on the honor system if the judges do not have the breed book, be sure to check all horses’ height, build, body size, and type. Reminder that some horses may be classed as poor, but may actually fit the standard (especially important when evaluating height).

The sixth evaluation category (#6) regards proper coloration, mane/tail type, and feathering. Each will receive a third (1/3) of the points for this category except in color breeds. In color breeds such as the American Cream Draft, color gets two-fourths (2/4) of points.

If two horses are extremely close, please look at the Breeder’s Report, Horse Genetic Potential, and temperament to make a final judgement.

A pony or horse moves up through the competition by first being judged against its group/variety, then its breed, then its class, and then its specialty. How does this work? A horse cannot be considered the best of its kind of it is the only of its kind, so there will be a rule that for a horse to win a category, there must be five horses of its type and three handlers entered. In multiple color breeds, the base colors will be separated and shown against each other if they meet the five/three (5/3) rule. This would allow a gray Arabian to win Best of Variety, meaning it is the best of the gray Arabians entered. As you go down the line to winning more and more important categories, your horse can win Best of Breed, Best of Class, and Best of Specialty depending on number of entries and number of handlers. It is expected for Best of Breed (BOB) or Best of Class (BOC) winners to compete for Best in Show (BIS).

I will donate a Champions Sash item to the winners of each category.
Just provide me with a list of the winners once your judging is complete :)

A little while ago I asked if I could possibly make my own breed standards for the ponies that I am breeding(that are of no particular breed). You said it could be possible if I created my own breed standard. So i did, i'm just wondering if it would be alright, and allow me to enter your conformation show? It is on my farm log under "Breed Standards": N4 Neons Little Ponies

Oh sure. :) This works great, thank you. Your ponies are in fact adorable too, so way to go there. Just want to pet them. In the next conformation show cycle, you can enter as many of them as you want. ^^ I will do a poll on when to begin taking entries for the next show. We might start now, so we can get more competitors for next month.
