Generally speaking, yes. But the stats are the icing on the cake. The hard genes are the big part. Your breeder's report takes into consideration both the hard genes of the horse and the conformation stats. The conformation stats have a very limited number sequence (somewhere from 5 to 70 pts, some start higher or lower and some end higher or lower), but the hard genes have a much larger range. You should use the breeder's report and the colors therein (red, black or not colored, green and gold) to help guide you to where you want to be.
Utilize the stats to fine-tune your horses.
Firefox has five gold stats (stamina, tempo, balance, agility, intelligence), one green stat (speed), and two uncoloured stats (strength, movement); I assume that's good.
Yes, that's good. But competition ability may be a different thing than just the 'on-paper' view. Many of our record holders sit between 57k and 68k HGP. So just having the highest HGP and the best looking BR (breeder's report), as in, 7 gold comments, this doesn't mean that the horse will win records... or even really be a competent competitor. That said, there is a lower limit that a horse will perform just because said horse is almost maxed with high HGP and good BR.

I hope Firefox will work out! He's a 68,665 HGB, so he's got a pretty good chance, provided I can train him properly.
