👍
Got it!
Translation in my head: 'pay more attention to what I have written in the breed releases and don't forget, some homework might not hurt either.'

I hope the time window is nice and big for this because I'm so excited... Exmoor is my focus breed and I've been working on a long-running project to improve the breed, but I'm slower than a lot of other players, haha. Really hoping I'll get to participate! ♥

The Akhal-Teke is getting close to being ready to close up, but you've got lots of time for the Exmoor :) We'll make sure to give everyone lots of notice when a breeding project is getting ready to close.

What's the upper line you consider as "low COI", or is that too under the hood?

Of course, lower is better, and my current plan is to try line breeding to set the traits my chosen breed is missing then bring in fresh genetics to get the COI lowered while doing my best to keep correct type. However, ideas of what is considered "low" can vary greatly and I'm a girl who likes concrete goals! lol

I understand if that's against the spirit of the event, though. :)

My very general advice is to aim for under 40%, if you must have a specific goal :)

Quick question! Maybe I missed this information or misinterpreted what is written... but are we supposed to post our single best representative of the breed, or post more than one? And on that note, is it that once we reply to the thread, the horse(s) we post are locked in, or can we keep editing our post up until the contest is closed, swapping out any horses that age-out with ones that are still around?

Thanks!

larissar wrote: Mon May 20, 2024 12:54 am Welcome to the Adoption Centre breed expansion project sub-forum!

We are expanding the breeds available in the adoption centre, but we need your help! As dedicated HWO breeders you’ll need to carefully breed and select the best examples of each breed we begin a project for. The breed characteristics will be outlined in each breeds project thread within this sub-forum, and you'll help propagate the breed to improve the quality of the overall breed population.

Once we have enough horses that have been bred then that breed will appear in the adoption centre. Also, all players who participate and help improve a breed and bring it into the AC will be awarded a trophy to show how they’ve helped with these very important community breeding projects!

We encourage you to share photos of and links to your best horses of each breed. Share your stallions with others to help out your fellow breeders. This is a community event so we should all work together!

How does this work?
To calculate the base genetics for a new breed in the adoption centre we need to sample the horses in the game. The goal is for everyone to work together and get a good healthy amount of high quality horses of the specific breed to be entered into the Adoption Centre.

We will only focus on a few breeds at a time, beginning with the breeds which can be created from horses already in the AC.
When a new breed project is announced a discussion thread will be created with information about the breed and how to create it. We encourage you to post links to your best horses of the breed, and to help others by discussing the traits of mares and stallions, and helping to select what stallion to breed with each mare. We encourage you to share your stallions and help others.

At the end of the event, any player who’s logged in during the event period and owns at least 1 horse of the breed that is 3rd generation purebred or more, will receive a trophy. Then we will use these horses to help calculate the base genetics for the breed, and it’ll be added into the Adoption Centre.

How We'll Calculate Base Genetics
Once we have a good selection of horses in the active population we'll examine their genetics and use that to influence how the new breed is setup in the AC. Horses with lower COI will have a greater influence so do your best to keep COI low while also improving the overall quality of your herds.

Good luck and happy breeding!
is this project still on going? Is there a deadline or a date goal set to complete?

Exmoor Ponies, Akhal-Tekes, and West African Barbs have been completed. Mongolians are in-progress. A new breed opens for work after the old breed closes. There is no deadline. The point at which the breed finishes depends on how active the community is in breeding it. The more people that are active, the more horses are bred, and the faster the project will reach the desired genepool width/depth.

Is this still happening? If so, Can I breed a Friesian and a Kathiwari to make a new breed? Or can I breed a Turkemene? Sorry I'm confused!
