Use it in the message box.
I don't know if the subject box will accept commands. I never tried it.

If you're unsure of whether your command is correct, go into the Full Editor & Preview mode (there's a button at the bottom of each forum post) and click the preview button. It will load your message with the commands so you can view it before posting. If it doesn't look right, then look at the command in the posting section below the viewing box and see if you can figure out what went wrong.
Most often the quotations are missing. Or there's no words (ping, quote) between the inner brackets.

Hey thank you so much for your interest! Unfortunately I think I will be keeping him for the foreseeable future. He really is my top stallion and if I were to sell him, it would be extremely expensive. But I'm super flattered feel free to breed to him as much as you like though. He produces great babies.
