
7-Gen COI: 0%? Means what exactly
When looking threw a horses pedigree all horses display this "7-Gen COI: ?" COI is short for? and what does the number relate too?

COI stands for Coefficient of Inbreeding.
It measures the common ancestors of dam and sire, and indicates the probability of how genetically similar they are.

If you look at my stallion [NYR] Loreno's pedigree, you will notice that he has a COI of 0.78% because his sire's great great great grandmother is also his great great grandmother. :)

The COI calculation Larissa uses does not measure relatedness between parents, but in general.

A horse's COI should be 0% if the parents have no common ancestor within 7 generations because none of the genes will be alike by descent. However, the formula Larissa uses factors in any duplicated ancestors, even if they are only duplicated in one parent.
